EDITORIAL Dear Jarltech Partner, I have the feeling that our guild lets way too many orders fall by the wayside. On an average day I bump into potential customers for our vendors every few met- res. Why on earth do we have so many wonderfully innovative products if we don’t use them to make our lives easier? I was just in a childrens’ hospital and had to enter my address on forms at least ten times during the admission procedure. And even more often, where and how I am insu- red, including case descriptions. I had to relay the entire tale to every doctor – and afterwards all these forms will be typed up! Ever heard of intelligent document scan- ners, which also »understand« documents and allocate them properly? Or label prin- ters, so that you don’t have to fi ll out your address ten times? After providing the information for the fi rst time on the rugge- dized tablet (which simply scans my busi- ness and health insurance cards), all the information is available everywhere in the hospital. And I know today’s hospitals are comprised of sub-contractors, which makes things more complicated. Oh yeah, and then there’s the data protection regula- tions. But a 2D barcode with all the informa- tion could be printed at the fi rst ward, which would then only need to be scanned by the second ward. A colour printer indicates the urgency. And the doctor, who only knows how to hunt and peck when searching, makes his notes during the patient consul- tation on a mobile computer. You know, if you sit long enough in the waiting room, 25 more ideas will come to you – and that just for a small hospital. There is a shortage of qualifi ed personnel all over Europe, so why are we wasting the time of nurses and doctors with tasks like these?
